The overall design of this piece was inspired by a luxurious uchikake (formal kimono overgarment) traditionally worn during the Edo period. Kurenai-kai reimagined this design specifically for use as an obi (sash) for kimono. I designed the patterns within the leaves, embroidering non-periodic geometric patterns.
